Speaking of Women & Institutional History in the Rap Game…

I just learned via The Big Payback:  The History of the Business of Hip-Hop that Paulette & Tanya Winley’s “Rhymin’ and Rappin‘” was one of the first rap records – possibly even the first.

Thank you Big Payback for Sweet T’s verses (I’m quoting her first one because it’s appropriate to the topic but keep listening, her second one is crazy good!!):  “I’ve got rhymes gala/and rhymes galore/and when I finish with those/I’ve still got more/because they’re coming out my ears/and out of my eyes/they are so devastating you will be surprised/MC Sweet T is my DJ name/I’m in the history books and the Hall of Fame.”
